Tropes in Fiction

What are they, exactly?

I consider tropes to be familiar plot devices that make a novel recognizable in some way. They are also an excellent form of packaging, letting readers know what's inside and whether or not they might be interested.

There are certain tropes you might LOVE as a reader, and others you might not care for.
